I have been a vegetarian by choice for 14 years now. I loved meat, and still miss the taste of it to this day, but as a kid I sat down and thought about how wrong animals are being treated, and simply stopped eating it. A lot of people don't understand when I tell them why I don't wanna eat meat- they say things like "animals are meant to be eaten" or animals don't have feelings. My problem with the whole thing though is that these animals live under the worst conditions you can imagine. They never see the sunlight, they live in a overcrowded box, hurting themselves and eachother due to stress, they are being fed the remains of other dead animals and all kinds of other stuff such as antibiotics and hormones. Of course they will get sick, but hey, we'll just destroy them like a product that doesn't work right and bury them in a mass grave- just as long as we don't get sick everything is ok! So when I tell people this they just say "I try not to think about that" and they keep eating their burgers. Why shouldn't there be a picture of a mutilated animal on the meat wrap just like they put those pictures of dead babies on a pack of cigarettes? Why always make such a secret of it? I can tell you one thing: if I ever have a child, I will drag that kid to the slaughterhouse and show her where her bacon comes from, and then let her make the choice!
